CO Trip- Day 4

On Monday we were all (Lowe's and Schultz's) going to go on a hike to a lake.  We got there and found out dogs weren't allowed.  We were bummed.  So we sent the Lowe's along and found another hike that ran alongside a creek.  As it turned out the hike to the lake was a lot more difficult than we'd thought and with 2 little ones it probably turned out for the best.
We hiked up the trail about 45 minutes until we saw bear poop.  Then Jeremy decided it was time to turn back around!  He got a little bit nervous about that...
Snack time, for Maddox, Hadlee, AND Jessi!  Jessi carried our snacks in her pack while I carried all our water in my backpack.
Jessi was one hot girl.  She just plopped down in the ice cold mountain water!
Only about 5 minutes from the car and Maddox tripped and fell down, skinning her knees.  She's kind of a big wimp about injuries so we stopped at the creek to put some icey cold water and rocks on them but that did no good.  Tears on Maddox, but Hadlee's quite happy.
We drove in to Glenwood Springs in the afternoon and decided to rent bikes.  There's a nice bike trail that runs through the canyon along the river and interstate.  Just outside of town we saw a group of about 10 big horn sheep, ranging from babies to old ones.  They were only about 15 feet from us, right next to the trail.  We watched them for quite a while carefully climb up the rocks, slip a few times, and keep climbing.  It was nervewracking.
Jessi got to go on the bike ride too.  I rented her her own trailer to ride in.  She was pretty nervous about it and spent most of the 2 hours squeaking behind me but did lay down a couple of short times and relax.  She probably would have been much happier just running along beside me.  It did rain on us on our ride, but just a few sprinkles and it felt great!
After another group dinner that night David took Jeremy and Matthew mountain biking.  Mike drove them up to the top and they rode down.  In this picture David had just warned them about what to do if they come across a bear or mountain lion and at just the right moment Jeremy heard a noise behind him and whipped his head around.  Leave it to Jeremy to be nervous about it, not surprising.  That's probably why he rode down so fast.
